Earth Day 2009

Wednesday, April 22, 2009 was observed as Earth Day all around the world. To mark this event, and to join with the Government of the Commonwealth of the Bahamas in its commitment to planting a million trees throughout the Bahamas by the end of the year, the General Manager and members of the Executive Committee, along with other staff, participated in a tree planting ceremony at its Big Pond Compound.

A total of 28 trees were planted at the Big Pond Complex parking area including the yellow elder, mahogany, madeira bark, silver buttonwood, coco plum and other trees indigenous to the Bahamas.

It is the goal of Management and Staff of The Bahamas Electricity Corporation to keep the Bahamas green and to protect its natural resources and the environment for generations.
