Alternative Sources of Energy The rising cost of fuel on the international market has generated much concern by utility companies throughout the region. At BEC we remain committed to providing reliable power at the least cost in a way that protects and preserves our environment for generations. As a result there has been increased focus on exploring various ways of integrating renewable energy systems in businesses and homes and reduce our use and dependency on fossil fuels. CIPORE Training WorkshopMr. Bryan Taylor, economist and RTC committee member recently attended the Caribbean Information Platform on Renewable Energy (CIPORE) March 18th & 19th, 2009. CIPORE was developed to provide a medium for renewable energy communication and information exchange in the region and presently involves 13 Caribbean countries; The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Cuba, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Surinam and Trinidad. Once launched, the CIPORE will be an asset to the Corporation and The Bahamas by providing a wide forum in which to promote the country’s RE initiatives to the world, and a resource access point for government entities, utilities, educational institutions and the public at large.
