Temporary Supplies

NOTE: Temporary supplies are granted for construction purposes only.

More InfoStep 1 Hire a Licensed Electrical Contractor to install the meter can, switch and plug sockets that you will need.

When the installation has been completed, your electrical contractor will arrange for it to be inspected by the Building Control Department of the Ministry of Works. When it is approved, a certificate will be issued entitled, 'Temporary Supply of Electricity.' An approved Permit Number must be clearly indicated on the approved temporary document.

NOTE: At no time should the temporary supply  be connected to the permanent wiring of your building. Firstly, the permanent wiring may not have been inspected and approved. Secondly, you may overload the temporary supply. For these reasons, among others, the temporary supply would be subject to immediate disconnection.

More InfoStep 2 Bring the required documents to B.E.C.'s business office, and pay the security deposit.

Required Documents:

  1. The "Temporary Supply Of Electricity" certificate obtained from the Ministry of Works.
  2. Two current references (including phone contacts of the signatories)
  3. Security deposit invoice
  4. Some form of picture identification such as a valid passport or driver's license and your National Insurance Card. If the account is to be recorded in a company name, then you must bring a letter on the company's letterhead stationary, indicating that the company is accepting responsibility for the account and authorizing two signatories (their positions should be stated). The company seal is to be affixed to the letter. Foreign Applicants, in addition to the above items, if unemployed, must provide a National Identification Number of his/her country (e.g. social security number etc.) instead of a National Insurance Card.

NOTE: If the point at which you require the temporary supply is more than 60-feet from B.E.C.'s overhead lines or if a transformer is required, or if the area has underground cables, you will have to pay a Service Charge. In some cases, it is advisable to ask your electrical contractor to arrange for a permanent electricity supply to avoid additional costs.

The security deposit for normal temporary supplies for small tools, etc., during construction is currently $50.
