Service Upgrades

More InfoStep 1 Hire a LICENSED ELECTRICAL CONTRACTOR to carry out the additions or alterations to your wiring.

The procedure is the same as for New Connections (Page 3) except that a different form called "Electrical Permit, Specification of Proposed Alteration to and Extension of Electrical Installation" is used. (See Appendix)

More InfoStep 2 Pay the Service Charge (if any)

lf the addition or alteration requires B.E.C. to install additional equipment or larger cables or transformers, you will have to pay a Service Charge. In this case, B.E.C. will send you a letter and an invoice telling you what this charge is.

More InfoStep 3 Bring the required documents in to BEC's business office and pay the security deposit if any.

Required Documents:

  1. "Electrical Installation Approval Certificate"
  2. Security deposit invoice, if required.

Any addition or alteration to your wiring has to be inspected and the procedure is the same as that for New Connections (Page 3). If the wiring addition or alteration is approved, the Inspector will issue the electrical contractor an "Electrical Installation Approval Certificate", but in this case, the certificate will have an "Occupancy Certificate Exemption" stamp indicating that no Occupancy Certificate is required.

If the addition or alteration is a major one involving significantly increased electricity usage, an additional security deposit may be required, and in this case, B.E.C. will issue you an invoice for the additional amount.
