This section will highlight some of the distinguished retirees of our Corporation who are awarded or recognized for their contributions both within and outside of the Corporation.
RICHARD RAHMING
n 1970, Mr. Richard Rahming began his glowing career as a Draftsman contract worker to upgrade the filing section in the Drawing Office, was hired as a permanent Draftsman a year later, and was subsequently promoted to Assistant Drawing Office Supervisor, then Assistant Drawing Office Manager. When asked what his job experience was like in BEC, Mr. Rahming responded by saying that it was quite satisfying. He reminisced about the day-to-day new experiences in the Drawing Office. Every day brought with it new experiences. Meeting the public, satisfying their needs and enjoying a good working relationship with his staff was the order of the day.
Mr. Rahming recalled that he had the privilege of working with Peter Bethel (former General Manager) who he said was the one who best understood the Drawing Office needs. He also relishes the fact that during his time in the Corporation, he was able to watch current Manager Burlington Strachan, a very knowledgeable and excellent Manager, aspire to the position he holds today. In addition to his work as Assistant Drawing Office Manager, he also serves the nation as a Police Reserve Officer since 1973 and has moved up the ranks from Constable to Assistant Superintendent. He has been attached to the Traffic Division of the Royal Bahamas Police Force as Officer-in-Charge of serious accidents and fatalities from May, 1988 to the present date. His investigations total 4,446 fatalities in the Bahamas including motor cycle accidents, vehicular accidents, and accidents involving two fatalities in the Turks and Caicos Islands. In 2006, he won the first place prize out of hundreds of international competitors to win in the International Traffic Accident Reconstruction Competition. His competitors included persons from Canada, Mexico, the United States, Spain, Germany and England. Mr. Rahming was the first person from the Caribbean and The Bahamas to win this prestigious award for calculating and drafting the cause behind fatal traffic accidents. In addition to being congratulated by the Commissioner of Police, Officer Rahming has received international acclaim from the Canadian Company. His winning fatal accident reconstruction draft is presently on the Company’s website at www.visualstatement.com.
Mr. Rahming has taught the Defensive Driving Course since its inception in the Bahamas by the National Safety Council in 1994. Mr. Rahming is enjoying his retirement and is very active in his church, The Bahamas Faith Ministries, where he is a member of the Praise and Worship Team and he also plays the saxophone.
