Powering the Bahamas for Generations

Employee Spotlight

BEC Chairman Mr. Frederick Gottlieb congratulates Kevin

 Congratulations to Kevin Seymour
 City
& Guilds of London Institute
 Gold Medal Award Recipient 2007

Kevin joined the Bahamas Electricity Corporation on February 24, 1997, and was initially assigned to the South Andros Power Station as a Station Diesel Mechanic Mate. In January of 2004, he joined the Corporation’s Apprenticeship Program, a program that seeks to develop and mentor employees, and equip them with the job skills required to perform with excellence in today’s power production industry. Upon successful completion of the program, employees earn a certified Mechanical or Electrical Diploma awarded by the prestigious City & Guilds of London Institute.

Kevin admitted that he found the work to be quite difficult during the first two months of the Program as many of the topics discussed were all new to him. However, determined to succeed, he says that he immediately put into action a strategy that would require long nights of studying, sometimes right into the early morning hours, just to ensure that he understood all of the work given to him during the lesson that day. His efforts did pay off as soon after he began to consistently earn top scores on all examinations and assignments.

Kevin says that for him, the entire Program proved to be a successful one. He adds that the understanding of the various principles covered in the training program enabled him to perform efficiently and competently various electrical duties at the South Andros Power Station - duties that only the very experienced Technicians have been able to do in the past.

The Corporation, will also be honoring Mr. Kevin Seymour, for this tremendous achievement of receiving the prestigious Gold Medal Award. This award is only awarded by City and Guilds of London Institute to individuals who for a specifically identified academic vocation have excelled above and beyond the thousands of other international candidates. The award was presented in person by Mr. Martin Newman, City & Guilds International Relations Officer.
